What Leng Ziyan had thought to be a sly scheme was nothing more than a childish joke in front of Fang Xing’s clever gaze.

This person was rather unfortunate. Although he’d received an opportunity rather early on by getting his hands on a Foundation Pellet, his basis wasn’t solid enough and he’d only formed the blue foundation. It was difficult for him to handle important situations, and since he had a rather poor background with an ordinary status within the Melodic Ice Palace, he’d never received the same respect as the other elites. Even when the Snowy Mountain was opened up to gather all of Chufung’s young elites, he hadn’t been included….

It wasn’t until later—when the Wanluo Court still hadn’t established a Foundation Stage head disciple—that Xiao Changqing felt there was a chance. He did everything he could to grab this position for one of his Melodic Ice Palace disciples, and after picking through the candidates, he finally chose this young Foundation Stage disciple amidst the group of elderly and middle-aged men. He prepared him to be sent to the depths of the Snowy Mountain in order to accept this opportunity from the old man Wanluo.

It was precisely because of this that Leng Ziyan received a secret medicine to cleanse his foundation, increasing it from a mid-quality blue foundation to a mid-quality red foundation. Afterwards, he received the ok from the old Wanluo to enter the Wanluo Court.

It was only after joining that Leng Ziyan realized things weren’t as smooth as he’d been expecting. Wanluo didn’t actually help him with his cultivation much; although the old Wanluo gave him skill manuals and basic pointers in cultivation and even arranged it so Leng Ziyan could have some time inside the Court of Enlightenment, Wanluo still seemed rather inattentive and not very mindful of him. It was actually the boy rumored to have lost his opportunity—the servant from the Myriad Beasts Sect who swept the floors of the Wanluo Court—who was drawing the concerned gazes from Grand Elder Wanluo all this time. It seemed this boy held a great deal of importance in the eyes of this legendary Golden Core Stage cultivator….

Leng Ziyan had been extremely terrified. He knew this opportunity to become the Wanluo Court’s head disciple hadn’t come easily, and he feared the old Wanluo would change his mind at any time and take that boy as his disciple once more. Fearing his own opportunity would be taken away, he incited some of the Wanluo Court disciples to make all kinds of remarks. He even prepared a gesture to “rescue” the boy afterwards, where he’d try to persuade him to leave.

When Fang Xing exposed his pretense to the public, not only did Leng Ziyan find it awkward, but he was so ashamed he began to feel anger as well. If he hadn’t been afraid of Grand Elder Wanluo’s judgment, he’d even think about killing this rude servant.

Fortunately for him, however, this servant finally decided to leave a month later.

One late night, the floor-sweeping Fang Xing quietly left the Wanluo Court and headed into the vast snowy mountains. Leng Ziyan was wild with joy, while the old Wanluo could only let out long sighs from the depths of his heart.

‘Has he finally stopped idling here?’

  ‘Did he finally give up?’

The two held very different emotions, but their thoughts were the same: it seemed Fang Xing had finally given up on being persistent and had left the Wanluo Court.

Fang Xing had indeed left the Wanluo Court. He felt that if he kept on sweeping the floors, he might never actually understand all of the Dao within it even if he continued to sweep until the end of time. Things like “the reversal of Yin and Yang” and “the mutual aid of water and fire” was simply torture to him. His mind hadn’t once stopped moving and he’d even curbed his temperament to read plenty of manuals and reference books, yet he couldn’t understand any of it. It was so much he nearly went into Qi deviation because of being too deep in his thoughts.

The theory of Dao is difficult to understand!

In such a situation, one night he suddenly recalled a verse, the sentence that rang in his ears during that time with the Script of Revered Sense: “Dao is real; Dao is not fabricated”. He hadn’t understood the verse back then, so he’d thrown it to the back of his mind where it’d been ever since. Today, however, as he puzzled over this so-called “Dao” and it seemed his mind had been completely used up, Fang Xing somehow recalled this verse.

That’s right, what is Dao? Can you eat it? Would he really understand the Dao behind everything if he just kept on repeating phrases like “the reversal of Yin and Yang”? F*ck that bullsh*t! Thinking about it repeatedly like that would just make someone go crazy; how could someone really think it through?

When Fang Xing thought of this, he threw away the broomstick and left in the middle of the night. He believed what he’d been doing the past month was wrong; perhaps some people might be able to understand Dao using this method, but a method like this wasn’t suitable for him.

To him, things that could be seen and touched were his Dao. Real gold and silver was his Dao. Beautiful women and delicious wine were his Dao. It was just as the verse from the Script of Revered Sense said: Dao is real; Dao is not fabricated. Only what is real is Dao. Only something that actually exists is Dao. Anyone who pretends Dao is some nebulous, nonexistent thing is an idiot that’ll pay for it in the future.

He left the Wanluo Court. Not to give up, but to use his own method—to find his own Dao.

And the method he’d use to search for it was…

  … bedding a woman!

Fang Xing had asked the Peng King about the meaning of Yin and Yang, and the old monster had smirked before explaining that the simplest kind of Yin and Yang is the Dao of men and women. Women are Yin, men are Yang, and the joining of a woman and a man is the work of Yin and Yang. If a man wished to understand the Dao of Yin and Yang, then the most direct and simple method was to try it out with a woman.

After some consideration, Fang Xing felt what this old beast said did have some sense to it. Bai Qianzhang had once told him to try to maintain his virginity before twenty years of age in case it might disrupt his foundation, but when faced with such an important matter of cultivation, something like this was no longer a large concern. It was far more important to understand this Dao of Yin and Yang first.

  But which woman to bed?

Fang Xing didn’t even have a wife yet. Although Bai Qianzhang had said he’d given Fang Xing ten wives, he hadn’t met a single one! After thinking on it some more, Fang Xing felt Ying Qiaoqiao would be a passable option. He wasn’t sure if she’d agree to it, but he’d go and discuss it with her first.

  —

After arriving at the Grand Melody Court, Fang Xing turned to the disciple on guard and casually asked, “Where’s Ying Qiaoqiao?”

The disciple saw this bandit-like person and actually recognized who he was but didn’t take him too seriously. “Shimei Qiaoqiao has gone into seclusion at the Court of Enlightenment,” he coldly replied. “She will likely finish after three days’ time. Come again then!”

“Tell her to come find me after she’s out.” With that, Fang Xing left behind a jade talisman marked with some of his Qi within which would allow her to find him. The Grand Melody Court disciple accepted the talisman and coldly agreed.

  ” Aii , three more days….”

Fang Xing felt depressed. He didn’t want to go back and sweep the floors within the Wanluo Court, so he hopped onto his spirit vessel and began wandering all throughout the Snowy Mountain. Watching the falling snow, flying in the air, drinking his wine, singing songs, it all did feel somewhat enjoyable, but the song he was singing was a bit unfit for the scenery….

“Within a village lived the widow Xiao Hua, her face was pretty and her chest aplenty. By the toll of midnight, no one came to knock on the door, so she used her broomstick to sweep me clean….”

Although he wandered without a specific destination, he ended up arriving at a peculiar place all the same.

At the boundary of land in front of him was a giant volcano. It was so tall its peak rose up into the clouds while black smoke rolled out of it, making it an extremely bizarre existence amidst these snowy white-filled mountains. In the spur of the moment, Fang Xing decided to direct his spirit vessel over for a closer look and found rivers of lava slowly oozing inside. Its heat was so great it felt like it would set his brows and hair on fire—as though a living fire dragon was living below.

Over and above the volcano, snowflakes and cold gusts of wind containing an endless amount of chill surrounded and covered him. Poised at the mouth of the volcano, Fang Xing’s body happened to be in the boundary of the icy snow and the sweltering heat, as though settled in the peaceful transition between Yin and Yang. It was the intersection of hot and cold, the combination of volcano and blizzard.

With the heat against his front and the chill against his back, Fang Xing suddenly began to understand something.

After some time, he put away his spirit vessel and slowly drew closer to the mouth of the volcano. As he stood on the black stone overlooking the edge, he was able to feel the terrifying heat of the lava even more prominently, yet when he lifted his head, he would once again feel the deathly chill contained within the snow and wind. Drops of water become ice, the heavens and earth are vast, the land where Yin and Yang is reversed….

Fang Xing sat down and began pondering deeply, thinking over it for quite some time before activating the skill. Within his left hand was the condensation of the sacred Qi, while in his right hand was that dense malice. These two were also completely opposite kinds of power, akin to that of Yin and Yang….

“Reversal of Yin and Yang, the sanding of the heavens and earth….”

Fang Xing suddenly released a loud yell and both of his hands began to rotate, as though activating a giant grindstone between heaven and earth. Guided by his spirit sense, the malice and Qi became two distinct and separate powers within the vast sky. Yang on top, Yin on bottom, one guided by the volcano, the other guided by the blizzard, all while both were connected into one through Fang Xing’s spirit sense. They rotated slowly—one clockwise, the other counterclockwise—and gradually began to close in….

  BOOM ….

When the two powers drew close, a terrifying power exploded outward. Fang Xing lost control in an instant and his damaged body was thrown away like a kite with a broken string, flying back out a hundred or so feet before falling against the base of a snowy mountain.

  Pfff ….

A mouthful of fresh blood surged from his lips and his face pale white, yet—despite it all—he was smiling. It was a smile filled with unmatched happiness, free from worries. He suddenly realized he already understood the Dao of Yin-Yang reversal the old bastard Wanluo had spoken of.
